About the event

We invite you to a special evening with silent cinema and live music. During the show of the fairy tale animation “The Adventures of Prince Achmed” from 1926, we will hear a musical interpretation of the duo JARZMO, combining Polish traditional music with the raw sound of rock and industrial.

The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926), directed by Lotte Reiniger, is an extraordinary animated fairy tale inspired by the stories of the Book of a Thousand and One Nights. Recognized as the oldest surviving full-length animated film, it impresses with its intricate silhouette animation, in which paper characters and fantastic landscapes come to life thanks to the play of light and shadow. This is a magical journey through the world of flying horses, magic, distant lands and extraordinary adventures.

JARZMO is a musical duo that tells the story of a pre-apocalyptic reality — foggy, cold and drowning in electronic garbage, in which the melody of an obek played a hundred years ago by a village player on the edge of the field still sounds. The band combines raw, industrial energy with folk spirit, finding themselves both in a smoky club and dancing under a thatch.

Their music grows out of a fascination with tradition and its contemporary interpretations, and at the same time tells of overproduction, the climate crisis and a world hurtling towards inevitable doom.

The basis of the band's characteristic sound is the keyboard viola (nyckelharpa) — an instrument that, combined with drums, creates an unobvious mixture of folk, rock and dirty industrial.

Composition:
Piotr Aleksander Nowak — keyboards, vocals
Katarzyna Bobik — drums, vocals
