A performance by Katarzyna Kalwat based on Edward Pasewicz's novel “Pulverkopf”.
This monumental work, created over a dozen years, awarded the Angelus award is one of the most interesting new novels published in Poland.
Pulverkopf is a complex, intertextual attempt to search for one's own identity, to merge it from different threads, taking place on multiple temporal and spatial planes. Through the archive of notes, sketches, notes and random photographs collected in the novel, the main character Patryk Werhunt wants to get to the origins of his identity, put it together like a Perec puzzle and finally understand himself. However, where there are missing elements of factography, specific gaps in history, there is also an imagination that brings paradoxical discoveries. It is through her that the constant game with one's own identity takes the form of self-creation, acute, because dictated by illness and the process of dying.
The text intertwined with the life story of composer Norbert von Hannenheim is a consistent choice of a director fascinated by the creation of theatrical essays about the search for identity and tensions between biography and work.
Intricately constructed, engaging, multilevel, intertextual... it must be said bluntly and briefly: Pulverkopf Pasewicz is an outstanding novel. Perhaps one of the best, if not the most outstanding Polish novel of recent years. If you have been waiting and waiting for a “great Polish novel”, which will tell about our Polish problems with history and identity, in which both male and female characters will be written so that they will remain under your eyelids for a long time, here it is - wrote Wojciech Szot.
