The quartet pays homage to their long-time friend and collaborator Cassandra Miller, performing string quartets from her intimate repertoire alongside the London premiere of Three Songs.

About the event

Quatuor Bozzini brings Cassandra Miller’s Three Songs to London for the first time, after acclaimed performances in New York, Montréal, Hamburg and Toronto. Since their first encounter at the 2009 Composer’s Kitchen in Montreal, Quatuor Bozzini and Miller have built a strong artistic and personal friendship, of which, Three Songs is the most recent expression.

Three Songs is about the joy of learning new things about old friends. When Miller started working on this piece, she asked the quartet many questions, including what songs they sang as children. These three French and Italian folk and campfire songs were sang to her by the quartet members, conjuring feelings of connection and comfort between the singer and the listener. Miller takes these existing melodies, which then she deconstructs, loops, magnifies and completely transforms.
