Quatuor Ébène's journey through the world of Ludwig van Beethoven's string quartet comes to an end. Last stop: the “Great Fugue”, which the composer originally wrote as the final movement for his Opus 130. Contemporaries were so overwhelmed by the impact of this music that Beethoven wrote a new finale and published the fugue separately. The Quatuor Ébène now presents the quartet op. 130 in its original form — with the avant-garde “Great Fugue” as a highlight. The first “Rasumovsky Quartet” begins with a work from Beethoven's middle creative period, which impresses with its symphonic expressiveness and size.
