Queer School of Movement x Zachęta

Duration: 2 hours

How to find a stable foothold in a chaotic world of overcrowding and crises? Can art and work with the body bring real support and relief, restore our sense of agency and contact with it?

We invite you to the Queer School of Movement — a series of workshops for young people 15—19 years old. During the meetings we will test different approaches to working with the body in the field of choreography, improvisation, (eco) somatic practices and dance and movement therapy.

Our workshops are a safe space for joint practice, free networking and sharing experiences. We create structures that are open and completely free from evaluation. We treat artistic tools as an alternative form of communication, support and building deep peer relationships.

Organizers:

Michał Przy— performer, choreographer, pedagogue and yoga teacher. Graduated in Dance and Choreography at the Academy of Humanities and Economics in Łódź, participant of the international MASA program at Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company (Israel) and Experimental Choreography Course at Centrum w Ruchu. In the years 2016-2020 he worked with the Polish Dance Theatre in Poznań. He creates his own artistic and educational projects combining movement, choreography and somatic practices, conducts workshops in the field of body awareness, movement improvisation and choreography. It focuses on the body as a space for expression, agency building, and identity, particularly in working with queer youth. Scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the City of Krakow and the DanceWeb program as part of the ImpulStanz festival in Vienna.

Alicja Kaczmarek-Poławska — producer and organizer. Professionally associated with the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, where she co-creates projects with contemporary artists and interdisciplinary initiatives combining the areas of contemporary art, research and education. She is also involved in projects in the field of performance, choreography and sisterhood. She actively supports projects directed and co-created by LGBTQA+ people.

Leading persons:

Przemek Kamiński — educator, choreographer, researcher. It designs a variety of educational formats and facilitates them both in academic contexts and in the area of alternative and non-formal education. His works have been presented in Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg, Prague, Warsaw and Zurich, among others. He studied visual and media anthropology at HMKW Hochschule für Medien, Kommunikation und Wirtschaft in Berlin and choreography at the HZT Inter-University Centre for Dance. She is currently researching expanded choreography as a practice for designing educational experiences.

Magdalena Przybysz — intersectional choreographer, psychologist, performer, trainer. He embodies choreographic and communicative strategies in art and artivist activities. She co-creates educational, artistic and social situations in CSW Zamek Ujazdowski. Recipient of the MKiDN Creative Scholarship (2012, 2020) in the field of dance. Laureate of the Grażyna Kulczyk Creative Scholarship for contemporary choreography (2021). Lecturer and content manager of the postgraduate studies Communication in Organization Based on Empathy at SWPS, she teaches the course Working with the Body at the University of Warsaw at the postgraduate studies Pedagogy of Theater.

Angelika Mizińska — works at the intersection of choreography, dance art and somatic education. In her practice, she explores the relationship between the body, community and environment, treating movement, improvisation and choreography as tools of cognition and coexistence. Her approach is shaped by movement improvisation, Body-Mind Centering®, (eco) somatics and dialogue and cooperation practices. She works in stage and site-specific spaces, initiating artistic and educational projects. Her current research centers around ecosomatics as a practice of embodied relativism. She studied in the UK, USA and Estonia. She is a certified Body-Mind Centering® somatic movement educator (Germany, 2024).
