About the event

London-based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and producer Quinn Oulton has always been a

musical explorer. With a foundation deeply rooted in jazz, Quinn possesses a profound

understanding of complex musical concepts which he translates seamlessly into the more

mainstream genres of contemporary RnB and alt-pop. Expect to hear beautifully constructed

classic sounding tracks with hidden layers for appreciators of depth and detail. Quinn's

acclaimed work - including his debut album ‘Alexithymia’, and standout singles such as ‘100

Degrees’ (with Reuben James and Linden Jay) - has earned over ten million streams and

significant support across radio and press, and he has toured the UK and EU with his project,

supporting artists such as KNOWER, Elijah Fox and Jamie Cullum. Quinn also produces and

performs for other artists such as Priya Ragu, Eyelar, and Amie Blu.

We live in a world where we are forced to choose a side: conservative or liberal, art or business, success or failure. On his sophomore album What I Meant To Say, Quinn Oulton rejects these dichotomies to explore the space between.

Moving beyond the rigid categorisations of his jazz roots, Quinn has developed a sound that sits somewhere between alt-RnB and experimental pop. The result is a record that is as intellectually deep as it is sonically accessible. It is a celebration of nuance - a personal quest for balance in his music between the light and the dark; digital and analogue; the rawly emotional and the meticulously produced.

Releasing with Dutch label Frequency, the project is introduced by a diverse array of singles that act as case studies for Quinn's philosophy of nuance. "Comfort Food" offers an unusual perspective on addiction, "Catastrophe" explores dependency on doom-scrolling, while "Circles" (ft. Nix Northwest) introduces a new interpretation on nostalgia: what if life did peak when we were children? By considering the world and his music from every angle and refusing to settle for simple binaries, Quinn puts a body of work forward that is finally exactly what he meant to say.
