About the event

Rane Willerslev comes to Bremen Theatre for a wild evening of creativity, knowledge and leadership.

In the bestseller Think Wildly — It is Divine to Fail, Rane Willerslev lays out his philosophy of creativity, knowledge and leadership. A philosophy he put into play as director of the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo and which, among other things, dates from his time as a fur hunter in Siberia.

Here, as you know, he came across the Russian mafia and was forced to flee into the wasteland. For several months he survived solely on his own hunting prey in one of the coldest areas of the world.

On this super exciting lecture night, Rane offers his take on a more curious spirit of the time, cultivating knowledge and creativity to a greater extent. Indeed, according to Rane, we are in a prolonged and unhappy crisis of creativity, from which we must look to get out of. But it's not too late -- it's just high time we thought wildly!

Anthropologist, author, professor and former fur hunter Rane Willerslev has conducted a number of expeditions to Siberia since the 90s. In the beginning together with his twin brother, the evolutionary biologist Eske Willerslev, and later on his own. His fieldwork resulted, among other things, in the publication of the doctoral thesis Soul Hunters at California University Press — on the spirit beliefs of the jukagirs.

He is a long-standing member of the Eventyrernes Klub and in 2006 received the Free Research Council's elite researcher award. Rane has been employed as a professor of anthropology at Aarhus University, served as head of the Ethnographic Collections at Moesgård Museum and as director of the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo at the University of Oslo.

Rane Willerslev, by the way, is a keen social debater. He's an advocate of “thinking wild” -- and we think this is going to be a wild night, too!
