The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to creative family workshops that accompany the latest exhibition “Sculpture after stability”.
What if our hands were as soft as fresh clay and everything we touch left a mark on them? A stone, a cloth, a leaf, a pen... What invoices and objects would be imprinted in our hands? Would there be traces on them of what we do not want to lose from our memories? We will try to answer these questions together during the workshop.
What are we gonna do?
We will start by looking for inspiration in art from the exhibition “Sculpture after stability”. Among other things, we will look at the work of Kaari Upson. This artist combined the casts of the tree that grows next to her family home with the prints of her own knees. We will also look through the transparent sculpture of Gizela Mickiewicz and try to read the impressions of specific meetings, situations and experiences.
In the practical part, children and adults will make bas-reliefs in the shape of their hands from clay. We will imprint different materials and objects in them, so that an abstract record of what it tells about us is created. At the end, we will combine all the hands into a common, family composition.
