We cordially invite you to the New Proxima Theater for the concert RE:FOLK. Transformations of tradition in classical music of the 20th and 21st centuries — partner event of the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow.
This is an original concert project by Martyna Włodarczyk, a student of the AMKP Postgraduate Studies in the piano class of Dr. Martyna Zakrzewska, which she is implementing as part of the Creative Scholarship of the City of Krakow.
The idea of the concert is to show different ways of processing folk music in the works of composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. The programme includes works inspired by Polish, Hungarian, Azerbaijani, Russian and Romanian folklore, showing the evolution of the approach to folk material — from direct quotations and stylizations to contemporary transformations. The project juxtaposes canonical works with contemporary works and confronts them with authentic folk material.
An integral part of the concert will be short comments by the presenter, visual projections and vocal folk melodies, which are a reference point for the inspirations present in the presented works.
