What did the music of Mozart and other composers of the 18th century sound like, if you look at it from the perspective of a theory that has been almost forgotten over the years? This question will be answered by the participants of the symposium “Reconnaissance — the Measure of Mozart”, which will culminate in a unique concert by the Arte dei Suonatori Orchestra.
During the symposium, invited guests — Caleb Mutch from the University of Freiburg and Ingo Petry from Take5 Production — will work together with the listeners and musicians of Arte dei Suonatori on compositions by renowned, but also forgotten, artists of the 18th century. The starting point will become the metric theory of Heinrich Christoph Koch, widely discussed in the 18th century and today almost absent in modern executive practice.
The use of this method can allow you to look at familiar works from a completely new perspective. A different reading of rhythm, phrase and musical narrative can influence the way works are conducted and thus shed new light on the sound of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's music and his era.
