Manuscript found in Zaragoza. Legacy of the Gomelezes

Alex, a young resident of a modern metropolis, receives an invitation to a mysterious game that takes him to eighteenth-century Spain. Entangled in a labyrinth of staging, supernatural phenomena and Kabbalistic rituals, he discovers that he has become a candidate to take over the leadership of the secret Gomelez brotherhood that has influenced the fate of the world for centuries. He must decide whether to reject the Gomelez' legacy or become part of their system.

The play “Manuscript found in Zaragoza. The Gomelezes Heritage” directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna is inspired by a 19th century masterpiece by Jan Potocki, which combines the Enlightenment vision of the world with the adventures of Alfonso van Worden, a young officer of the Walloon Guard, traversing the infamous Sierra Morena mountains of Spain. It is a game of power, faith and identity, in which the future of humanity is at stake.

Grzegorz Jarzyna: Historically, as a society, we have not experienced an enlightenment turn. In the 19th century, we fell into the trap of romantic messianism, the consequences of which are felt to this day. Like the people of the Enlightenment, we have rejected religion in favor of reason, but we increasingly feel a metaphysical emptiness. We reach for tarot, horoscopes, eastern meditation to fill it up. Technological development is not followed by the spiritual development of man. The more modern science and technology develop, the stronger the need for spiritual search becomes. Our show will be an initiatory story about the young hero's journey to self-knowledge.
