How can different forms of remembrance exist together in respectful mutual perception? The performance “Remembering Across Borders” and a discussion about the project of the same name approach this question in different ways.
The performance creatively, musically and participatory addresses the fact that memory is not a zero-sum game. Excluding or playing off victims of racism and anti-Semitism leads to a dead end. “Remembering Across Borders” suggests new ways of thinking about remembering colonialism and the Holocaust in a universalist and solidarity way, while also not forgetting contemporary German society.
The project is presented in conversation with its participants. Afro-German and Jewish voices have their say and make experiences, connections and areas of tension of remembrance visible.
