Requiem

Sandra Hüller's screen debut, for which she received the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival.

Psychological thriller, inspired by the true story of Anneliese Michel. Young Michaela goes to college, where she can finally taste freedom. However, she cannot break the inhibitions or act contrary to the puritanical principles instilled in her family home. The girl suffers from epilepsy and experiences a nervous breakdown. Unable to discern whether the mysterious visions and voices she begins to hear are just symptoms of a progressive illness or something more, Michaela returns home in a fatal condition. Her Catholic parents call for help from a priest who rules that the girl is possessed.
