Concert as part of the XIV International Days of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki Episodes
For centuries, choral music has accompanied the most important human experiences — prayer, reflection, memory and hope. During the next concert from the series Choir — Masterfully! The Silesian Philharmonic Choir under the direction of Jarosław Wolanin will present a program focused on the spiritual dimension of music, showing the diverse faces of contemporary and ancient sacred work.
The evening will be opened by Johann Sebastian Bach's motet Ich lasse dich nicht, one of the most moving choral works attributed to the Leipzig master. Simple and at the same time extremely suggestive music based on the biblical text becomes an expression of the trust and perseverance that have remained the foundation of Christian spirituality for centuries.
A special place in the program will be occupied by works by Polish composers of different generations. Requiem aeternam and Lux perpetua by Józef Świdr are among the most beautiful examples of contemporary choral lyric, combining clarity of texture with deep religious expression. Jarosław Mamczarski's Psalm XVII and Alexander Lasonia's Benedictus show the richness of the contemporary musical language, in which tradition meets an individual, extremely personal view of the text and its meaning.
The program will also include excerpts from Requiem by Ildebrand Pizzetti, one of the most outstanding Italian composers of the 20th century. The work impresses with its nobility of sound and focused character, far from the monumentality of many romantic elaborations of the mourning mass. Pizzetti builds his music with frugal means, achieving exceptional emotional intensity and depth of expression.
The highlight of the concert will be the premiere of Te Deum Piotr Pudučka. One of the most important hymns of the Christian tradition has inspired composers for centuries to create works full of solemn radiance and gratitude. The new composition will enrich the repertoire of contemporary choral music, becoming at the same time a testimony to the vitality of the genre, which is constantly finding new means of expression for timeless content.
The concert will be an encounter with music that prompts to stop and reflect. From Bach's baroque motet to the contemporary premiere, the next works will create a story of faith, memory and hope — values that, despite the passing of centuries, remain invariably present in art and human experience.
