The novel by the American writer Hubert Selby Jr. was published in 1978. Then it was treated as a fantasy about life on the edge, about a dystopian world in which addiction to stimulants is the realization of the postulate of acceleration at all costs. It was written about this piece that it describes a line that will never be crossed, that it will not be possible to live on such doping.
We're all high on something. We are lonely beings who, for most of their lives, suffer from misunderstanding, fear, exclusion.
We can look for closeness and relationships that will eventually show us how extremely unhappy we are. We can delude ourselves that courage, anger, or struggle will help us get out of it.
The sad truth is that the only thing that can really save us is: work, sex, sweethearts, our beautiful perfect bodies and delight in who we are.
What a beautiful and exciting vision,
to finally be for yourself.
To fall asleep and never wake up again.
based on the book “Requiem for a Dream” by Hubert Selby Jr.
