In the special exhibition Portraits, which opened on 15/10! We encounter numerous works from the Gemäldegalerie in new contexts. In preparation for this presentation, the restorers carried out extensive work on the paintings in their own collection. In an exhibition discussion, Kerstin Krainer and Marie Becker provide insights into the tasks and approaches in painting restoration.
The focus is on the painting Portrait of a Dead Man by Bartholomäus Bruyn (the Younger), which was previously hanging in the depot due to its condition and was not visible to visitors. It was extensively examined and extensively restored for the exhibition. It can now be presented again for the first time in around 130 years.
