About the event

Code Week hands-on festival How can robots help protect the environment? How much energy is there in dancing? How can we recognize fake news? And what can you learn about colonialism in VR games?

With the motto “Rethink, Rebuild, Reshape!” The one-day hands-on festival for the Europe-wide Code Week is dedicated to the topics of environment and sustainability, digital responsibility and colonialism and decolonization. A wide range of offers in the areas of coding, robotics, gaming and making ask questions about social responsibility and a future worth living in — even from the age of 3!

In 2026, the Humboldt Forum Foundation and the Association of Public Libraries in Berlin are organising a colorful festival program for children, young people and adults for the fifth time: on October 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., on Schlossplatz, on the ground floor and on the 1st floor of the Humboldt Forum. Come by!

To visit the hands-on activities in the workshops (from 3 years of age) and in room 2 (from 12 years of age), it is necessary to book a free 90-minute time slot ticket.

At the start of the booked time slot, the ticket entitles you to access the factory or to room 2. Please check our website in advance for information on the respective program offerings and get to the venue on time.

The tickets are available online or at the ticket office in the Humboldt Forum foyer. Remaining tickets will be handed out at the box office on the day of the event. Children up to 12 years of age can only take part in the offers when accompanied by adults. Please book one ticket per person (even for small children).

Offers from the age of 3 in the workrooms — with time slot tickets Discover how to protect houses from earthquakes with Lego Education, learn how AI works with Pac Man, helps Dash and Spike separate waste and keep the oceans clean with Kubo and BlueBot.

In the workrooms on the 1st floor of the Humboldt Forum, many different hands-on stations invite you to gain initial programming experience in a playful way and try out digital tools and robots suitable for children.

Offers aged 12 and over in room 2 — with time slot tickets Experience climate change up close in VR, pull out stolen artifacts from museums in Relooted, check your news expertise in the news test, test AI for crisis situations and use it to design your version of a green castle square.

Room 2 on the ground floor of the Humboldt Forum offers a diverse program in which adults and young people aged 12 and over can discover new technologies, game, hack and get creative together.

Due to topics, discussion formats and complex technologies, the offers are generally not suitable for children under 12 years of age.

Many other offers, free of charge and open to everyone — just drop by! Discuss self-expression, self-optimization and social media at the political nail salon and test your knowledge of festival topics during quiz sessions with Tom & Darren (between 14:00 and 17:00) in the Mechanical Arena. Discover VR installations and games about indigenous rights, knowledge and languages in the Virtual Reality Lounge in the Humboldt Forum foyer. At 1 and 5 p.m., the TikTok Public Viewing invites you to experience current TikTok trends together on a big screen instead of alone on a smartphone: The audience will decide by majority vote which videos are shown and when to continue swiping. The Maker Mobile from Stadtbibliothek Mitte stops at Schlossplatz and brings the popular cooking simulation game Overcooked into the real world. In the Humboldt Laboratory on the 1st floor, the Living in Balance dome projection conveys the indigenous star knowledge of Anishinaabe (North America) and combines stories about stars, planets, moons and seasons with lessons about a respectful and balanced life in harmony with nature and the environment. Further open hands-on activities invite families with children to tinker and be creative.

A cooperation between the Humboldt Forum Foundation in Berlin Palace and the Association of Public Libraries in Berlin, which has also organized the Code Week Regio-Hub Berlin since 2025. The Code Week Regional Hub Berlin is a nationwide initiative of the Körber Foundation and Code Week Germany.
