In 2018, veteran Lebanese filmmaker Jocelyne Saab invited filmmaker and archivist Mohanad Yaqubi to collaborate. She died two months later, having never received an answer, leaving the request as a final, open question. Revolutionaries Never Die is Yaqubi’s cinematic answer, imagining what their conversation might have been.
Compelled to understand why Saab reached out to him, Yaqubi enters her archives to create a lyrical portrait of a singular filmmaker, tracing her life, political commitments and artistic vision through the Palestinian revolution and turbulent Lebanon of the 1970s. Using her own voice and footage, Revolutionaries Never Die explores the intimate entanglements of filmmaking, political struggle, memory and revolution, while asking how revisiting the past might reshape our understanding of the present.
Followed by a screen talk with Elhum Shakerifar.
Revolutionaries Never Die, dir. Mohanad Yaqubi, Palestine/Belgium/Qater 2026, 81 min.
