Revisor

One of the most popular comedies of Nikolai Gogol in a new installment! Translated and paraphrased by Tadeusz Nyczek, the play, directed by Mikołaj Grabowski, takes us to the contemporary Polish province, where the inspector from the high office is to visit. Local notables do everything to receive an important guest worthily - especially since each of them has something to hide from official knowledge. However, they mistakenly take Khlestakov as an official — a young boy who, while traveling, seeks to fulfill his dream of power. Compromise is inevitable, especially since a real auditor will certainly appear at any moment...

Description of the play: The country of thieves, consumed by corruption, is immersed in fear — of power, of losing power... Do you know that? Of course it is! From the Reviewer. One of the funniest and smartest theatrical comedies is back in a new installment. Tadeusz Nyczek's fresh translation-paraphrase takes us from Nikolai Gogol's penetrating Tsarist Russia to contemporary Poland. We laugh at the same thing — at ourselves. In Mikołaj Grabowski's view, it is also a story about two almost realized dreams: about being better than you are, and about power. Who among us has never dreamed of this? “The revisor,” explains the author of the paraphrase, “is above all an art with totally reversed values. Since nothing works normally in this world, a simple mistake not worth sneezing can grow into a catastrophe that can sweep away the entire existing order. This shows how fragile the so-called social order is, especially that based on the law of force. The paralyzing violence unleashes the worst qualities in a man, exposes his potential filth and infinite smallness. And even a concentrated amount of filth is not capable of harming the smooth functioning of the puppet carousel spinning to the rhythm of the visionary of one small satrap — provided, however, that someone stronger, more influential and, above all, unpredictable does not appear.
