The formidable Spanish singer and jazz musician Rita Payés mesmerizes Store VEGA

The formidable Spanish singer and jazz musician, whose performance in the DR Concert Hall last year received a maximum of 6 stars in GAFFA, follows up the success with a concert in Store VEGA on November 8 together with pianist and guitarist, Lucía Fumero.

“Like that! Perfectly arranged, virtuoso and intimate concert in the middle of large concert hall”.

The praise from GAFFA's reviewer was overwhelming and the rating maximum 6 stars, when in November 2025, Spanish Rita Payés gave a memorable performance in the beautiful concert hall of the DR Koncerthuset. On that occasion, she supremely demonstrated how tradition and the present intertwine fingers in her songwriting.

The Spanish singer, songwriter and trombonist fuses jazz, bolero, bossanova and pop in her romantic and melancholic songs that pay homage to the past, not least her Catalan origins, while at the same time pointing out new paths for modern jazz.

Payés has grown up in a home where both parents were performing musicians, and she herself also acquired an early taste for singing and playing. As a teenager, she became part of the prestigious Sant Andreu Jazz Band that has fostered some of Spain's greatest recent jazz musicians. At the same time, she trained as a trombonist.

In 2019, at the age of 20, Rita Payés released her first album in her own name, Imagina; a collection of captivating Spanish-language anthems with discreet flamenco touches, written and recorded in the company of her mother, Elisabeth Roma, who is a classical guitarist. The mother/daughter collaboration continued on the excellent Como la piel (2021), which also achieved attention beyond the borders of the homeland.

NPR named it the best Latin Album of the year. And following up on her latest album, “De camino al camino”, due out in 2024, the English The Line of Best Fit named Rita Payés as “one of Europe's most captivating voices”.

In 2025 Rita Payés visited both Brorson Church in Copenhagen as part of Vinterjazz and at the aforementioned concert in DR Koncerthuset. A year later, she follows up the success with another Danish visit when she enters Store VEGA on November 8, this time with countrywoman Lucía Fumero as pianist and guitarist at her side.
