Rock as a story of man

On 23 October 2026 at 17.00 we invite you to a meeting entitled Rock as the voice of a generation and a form of story about community experience, which will be led by Dr. Tomasz Kubalica. The starting point for the discussion will be excerpts from the lyrics of, among others, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Grzegorz Ciechowski. Together we will look at how artists talk about the experience of a generation, about the tension between the individual and the collective, and about the relationship with the country in which they came to live. The conversation will be complemented by a philosophical question: is community a condition of freedom, or is it rather a constant threat to the individual? In search of answers, we will turn to Charles Taylor's philosophical reading “Sources of Subjectivity”. Explanatory materials are available in the General Library Information Office.

The event will take place as part of the project “Between verses and riffs — music of words and sound”, co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund.
