Rockers By Choice

Rockers By Choice was among the first to establish rap in Danish and played a key role in the development of the Danish hip hop scene. The group was formed in 1987 by brothers Chief 1 and DeePee and spent the early years on the Copenhagen underground scene, while the genre was still a special sight at home.

Their energetic live performances quickly generated attention, and soon after, they were given a recording contract with Virgin Records through producer and DJ Kenneth Bager. With the release of “Oplåb til det danske folk!” in 1989 Rockers By Choice got their breakthrough and became one of the first Danish rap names to reach a wide audience.

Then followed a number of notable releases, including the hit “Engel”, which made Rockers By Choice the first Danish rappers on MTV. Throughout the 1990s, the group toured extensively and released a total of five albums before ending the first chapter of their career in 1997.
