Voss, a patient in a mental hospital, arrives at the family home inhabited by his sisters, who are allowed to play acting by the fact that they own a stake in the theater. His visit exposes the family hell, the desperate inability to make contact. The protagonists, like prisoners in a cell, circle around the room hung with portraits, the impression of being in a cage is enhanced by the poles fastened with a steel rope closing the front of the stage. The themes characteristic of Bernhardt's prose and drama—madness, the ruthless, morbid pursuit of a given goal and efforts to cope with the world, creative impossibility and, ultimately, spiritual disability, return.
About the event
Bernhard and Lupa leave no illusions none of the characters have a chance of happiness. Siblings is a poignant, paralyzing dramatic construction. The mood of hopelessness more and more painfully gets out of the frame of the stage, crosses the red line, touches and affects us all. Actors — Agnieszka Mandat, Małgorzata Hajewska-Krzysztofik, Piotr Skiba — presented the highest championship.
Renata Sas, “Illustrated Express-Lodz”
The space of everyday life is a contrast to the tragedy of unrealized dreams. Behind the apparent marasmus there is tension and violence. Great credit to the cast. Piotr Skiba (a philosopher who dreams of creating a logical treatise, in his fate you can see elements of Wittgenstein's biography), Agnieszka Mandat (Dene — his maternal older sister) and Małgorzata Hajewska (a distant Ritter) are striking in their game. As if playing roles, they became the heroes of a real tragedy. An unusual spectacle in which a properly spoken word becomes the carrier of emotions.
