Thomas Bernhard's siblings are all about love. Extremely difficult, jamming the characters of the piece in a painful embrace of regret, a sense of hurt, at times even anger and hatred. Despite the suffering that this causes them, the protagonists of Bernhard cling to each other, want to stick together, create a family. It is easy to give in to the impression that they derive a kind of perverse pleasure from the fact that, for selfish motives, they tire each other, force them to sacrifice, and deliberately hurt each other. There is also certainly a good dose of masochistic delight in seeing each other as a victim of the rest of the relatives. However, it is good to think of this difficult relationship of three people a little differently. To see it as an act of extraordinary sacrifice, a desperate desire to maintain a bond that, while destructive, also builds something. It is no coincidence that Bernhard's characters, modeled after the outstanding Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein and his sisters, are still, despite everything, with each other. To torment each other, turn to each other
