About the workshop:
Non-camera animation workshops are practical activities for children and young people that will combine the basics of the history of cinema with artistic creativity. The meeting will begin with the presentation of old optical toys, such as thaumatrops or zoetrops, thanks to which the participants will test in practice how these simple devices can create the illusion of movement. Then, studying the real film tape and the famous experiment of E. Muybridge with galloping horses, the young creators learn the mechanism of bringing the picture to life. In the next part of the course, they will look at the concept of leading film, analyzing the original work of Julian Antoniszczak on the example of the material about “Pierones”, made for the Silesia-Film Film Ensemble. Inspired by these works, they will move on to manual actions — each of them will draw, frame by frame, their own fragment of the new Pieroni flagship on an assigned section of a common, paper film tape. The culmination of the planned activities will be the assembly of all the material created by the group and the final projection of the finished animation on the big screen using a projector.
