We invite you to a lecture devoted to Polish Romanticism as a key artistic and ideological formation, which in conditions of statelessness has become a powerful tool for shaping historical memory and sustaining national identity.
The meeting brings together a romantic landscape and mood painting, showing the artist as a witness and interpreter of history. The work of prominent representatives of the period, such as Piotr Michałowski, as well as the dramatic drawing cycles of Arthur Grottger, which are extremely important for Polish culture, are at the centre of the discussion.
The whole is complemented by a reflection on the experience of emigration, patriotism and the myth of the struggle for independence, which were permanently inscribed in Polish art of the 19th century.
