Romeo and Juliet

The musical “Romeo and Juliet” directed by Jan Klata is a staging of one of William Shakespeare's most famous dramas, which tells the story of the love of two young people who come from rival families. The drama was written in the 16th century, but its timeless message allows for new, original interpretations. This is the case with our staging, in which intricate interpersonal relationships resonate, dividing societies and communities for centuries.

The work of the English playwright focuses on the conflict of the warring families, the Capulettich and the Montecchi, and the love story of two of their representatives. Romeo Montecchi meets Julia at her family's party and falls in love at first sight. At this point, the affection of the young lovers is put to a great test, to which Romeo and Juliet's closest will also be subjected. In the adaptation of Jan Klata, the conflict of two families comes to the fore, resulting in polarization. Can a relationship of two people develop and survive in such conditions? Is it possible to have intimacy in love, unmarked by the expectations and opinions of loved ones? The story and the finale of Romeo and Juliet's love are well known, but the above questions since the creation of the famous drama, are constantly gaining momentum.

Jan Klata is responsible for the development of William Shakespeare's text and the direction of Romeo and Juliet. The music was composed by Endy Yden. Scenography and costumes were designed by Mirek Kaczmarek, choreography by Maćko Prusak, and video projections by Natan Berkowicz.
