Rosas danst Rosas is a mesmerizing and ruthless game of synchronization and desynchronization. Four dancers perform sequences of movements with iron precision - abstract and everyday, recognizable and difficult to name. They lie, sit, comb their hair, expose their shoulder, roll, run, consistently pushing their bodies to the limits of endurance. The increasing fatigue and physical intensity become an integral part of the choreography, creating a tension between wild emotion and a cool rigorous structure. These violent yet intimate gestures have fascinated audiences around the world for more than four decades.

Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker created in 1983 this iconic work of postmodern dance that changed the language of contemporary choreography. At the time of its premiere, the play was read as an expressive voice of female emancipation and even a feminist manifesto — and this revolutionary force is still felt in it today. The show has been presented on all the most important dance stages, and its influence even reaches the world of pop culture, inspiring Beyoncé's music video, among others.

Inherent in the work is music composed by Thierry De Mey and Peter Vermeersch, created in parallel with a choreography rooted in geometry. The repetitive, pulsating co-creates the architecture of the performance and remains one of the most recognizable examples of the dialogue between movement and sound in the history of contemporary choreography.

In 1997, Thierry De Mey shot a film version of Rosas danst Rosas, which increased the international recognition of the show. Platform Re:Rosas! launched by the Rosas team, it allowed audiences around the world to learn the famous sequence with chairs and create their own interpretations of the choreography.
