THE TRUE STORY OF A DECEIVER DECEIVING THE AUTHORITIES AND THE PEOPLE, WHO WAS BORN A WOMAN, BUT WHO BORE THE IMAGE OF A MAN AND COMMITTED MANY EVIL DEEDS UNDER A FALSE NAME.

A war-scarred soldier arrives in a remote, sunken village and presents himself as the heir to an abandoned farm. The stranger initially arouses distrust, but the villagers are convinced by the documents brought, uncommon diligence and willingness to submit to the strict rules of the Protestant community. In the cruel realities of 17th century Germany, someone who has no rights can only be himself in disguise — so the titular character must meticulously conceal his true nature and identity.
