Liya Petrova plays Beethoven in a concert that buzzes with wit and drama. Shostakovich's Ninth Symphony is a sardonic showstopper with a wicked sense of humour, banned by Soviet authorities for subverting the epic they wanted. Beethoven's Violin Concerto begins with a drum solo before revealing the poetic soul of the violin, and Dobrinka Tabakova's Ivor Novello Award-winning Swarm Fanfares draws inspiration from bees in a sparky celebration of life.
Programme: Dobrinka Tabakova – Swarm Fanfares (London premiere); Beethoven – Violin Concerto; Shostakovich – Symphony No. 9
Performers: Delyana Lazarova (conductor); Liya Petrova (violin, RPO Artist-in-Residence 2026–27); Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Cadogan Hall
RPO: Beethoven Violin Concerto
