"A wondrous tone, an elegant straightforwardness and a freshness of utterance" – that's how one critic described Johan Dalene's playing when he won the Nielsen International Violin Competition in 2019. This young Swedish-Norwegian violinist plays one of the warmest and best-loved violin concertos, the songful centrepiece of a concert charged with Romanticism, alongside a tempestuous overture from neglected French genius Louise Farrenc and Schumann's stormiest, most tender symphony, conducted by young British talent Alpesh Chauhan.
Programme: Farrenc – Overture No. 2; Brahms – Violin Concerto; Schumann – Symphony No. 4
Performers: Alpesh Chauhan (conductor); Johan Dalene (violin); Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Cadogan Hall
RPO: Brahms Violin Concerto
