Stravinsky's Violin Concerto begins with a chord once thought impossible, though with a violinist as brilliant as Liya Petrova ("exquisite" – The Guardian), the impossible comes as standard. It's the centrepiece of a concert filled with melodies close to Ukrainian guest conductor Kirill Karabits' heart, including the rarely-heard Angel by Fyodor Akimenko, and Tchaikovsky's Ukrainian-folk-inspired "Little Russian" Symphony.
Programme: Fyodor Akimenko – Angel, Poem-Nocturne; Stravinsky – Violin Concerto; Tchaikovsky – Symphony No. 2, ‘Little Russian’
Performers: Kirill Karabits OBE (conductor); Liya Petrova (violin, RPO Artist-in-Residence 2026–27); Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Cadogan Hall
RPO: Tchaikovsky 2
