About the event

Silent Green presents

Ryoko Ono Ryoko Ono is a Japanese saxophonist, flutist, composer and recording artist who specializes in improvised music as well as works for saxophone and electronics. Stylistically, she moves effortlessly between blues, jazz, progressive rock, noise and avant-garde music.

Despite this wide range of styles, her artistic approach always remains unmistakable: Her playing is characterized by powerful technical precision as well as by a romantic, expressive tone.

Hanno Leichtmann Hanno Leichtmann is a sound artist and curator from Berlin who is known for his formative contributions to the electronic music scene as well as for the conception and organization of important festivals. His work ranges from experimental electronics to ambient to minimal techno and is characterized by subtle sound spaces, fine rhythmic structures and a keen curiosity for sound research.

In the past ten years, Leichtmann has increasingly dedicated himself to sound art based on sound archives. His work Nouvelles Aventures was presented at the International Summer Courses for New Music Darmstadt. The sound installation Skin, Wood, Traps, created during a stay in Wellington, was shown at the House of World Cultures.

In 2018, during a scholarship at Villa Aurora, he developed a six-channel sound installation for Sasha Waltz & Guests, which was premiered in the same year with dancers from the company. In 2021, with SECULUM, he created a sound installation and audio work for the 100th anniversary of the Donaueschingen Music Days, the oldest and most important festival for contemporary music to date.

Sergeant Sergeant make music as if they were editing a chaotic movie: sounds are cut up, reassembled and woven into a whirlpool full of unexpected twists and turns. The trio, filmmaker and composer Benjamin Cools, the “search-singing” actor Ferre Marnef and the sound surfer Geraldine Vanspauwen, find a fine balance between the edgy corners of post-punk, the forward drive of krautrock and a pop energy that boosts the pulse.

Her sound is a plunderphonic jumble of broken rhythms and clashing sound textures: constantly in motion, never completely in balance. It's like The Avalanches having a party with pagan whistles, distorted bells, and dubbly bass lines. Flutes squeal as if they want to run away from the beat, while melodies break down into chaotic pleasure rides. Imagine Micachu & The Shapes playing heaven and hell with Robert Wyatt — or Sonic Youth dissolved in a glass of mineral water with vodka: sparkling, exhilarating and yet relentlessly honest in the end.
