Join us on a one-of-a-kind musical journey through Arabic clang and Sufi music when SADA Band guests ALICE on Nov. The ensemble's four musicians bring equal parts musical virtuosity and deep traditions from Syria, Palestine, Jordan and Andalusia onto the stage this evening, creating a unique and spiritual sound that will have the audience's hearts pounding.
SADA Band bridges musical worlds. Based on the classical Arabic song tradition, the ensemble allows familiar sounds to meet new expressions, while the spiritual dimension of Sufi music gives the music a special fervor. There is room for both the pensive and the virtuosic, for soaring melodies and vivid interplay. Live, SADA Band invites its audience into a universe where traditions are not only preserved but given new life in the encounter between the four musicians.
At the forefront is Syrian singer Bakri Hemmami, who grew up in Aleppo with the city's rich musical heritage and studied with prominent masters of Sufi music. Since his arrival in Denmark, he has made his mark through numerous collaborations on the Danish and international music scene. The viola and Arabic violin are Jordanian Islam Jaran, who has studied both classical and Arabic music at several of Jordan's music schools. Palestinian flamenco guitarist Obai Bitar unites Arabic maqam with Andalusian tones. His studies in flamenco in Córdoba and at Lund University have helped shape his particular musical expression, which in 2022 earned his band a Global Music Award. On darbuka and percussion, Syrian Bader Debs contributes with rhythmic excess and vast experience from collaborations with some of the Middle East's biggest stars. Today he tours as a soloist and leads two bands based in Sweden.
We look forward to welcoming the SADA Band to a very special night at ALICE.
