DR Symphony Orchestra
Sibelius's music draws the audience into another world. In his Violin Concerto, the soloist is like a shaman telling eternal Norse stories, inherited through generations. We are proud that the soloist at this performance is DR Symphony Orchestra's new concertmaster, Ludvig Gudim.
Few narratives have been depicted more convincingly in music than the struggle between good and evil in Stravinsky's The Firebird -- the glowing score with which the composer ushered orchestral music into a new, sparkling age. The work culminates in an infernal dance, created by Stravinsky with stomping rhythms and blazing, luminous colors.
Following his victory in the 2024 Malko Competition, the brilliant conductor Samuel Lee returns to the orchestra to conduct Sibelius and Stravinsky, as well as an immersive new work by a composer known for his expansive and powerful soundscapes — Icelandic-born, Copenhagen-based Bára Gísladóttir.
Thursday Extras
After the concert you can linger in the foyer for a half-hour 'Extranummer', where you can get closer to the musicians of the DR Symphony Orchestra and experience them playing together in more intimate settings. For the 'Extranummer', the bar is open, the lights are dimmed and the musicians themselves have composed the programme and talk about the music. The 'Extranummer' takes place in the lobby of DR Koncerthuset and is included in the concert ticket.
