Sarah Julia

Sarah Julia opens the door to the inner chamber of vulnerability in VEGA

Drawing on their shared upbringing, the sisters behind Sarah Julia create tender and introspective indie-folk gems of crystal-clear, penetrating vulnerability.

In collaboration with producer Catherine Marks (boygenius, The Big Moon, Wolf Alice), the EP, Only Makes It Worse, came to light last year, and this autumn Sarah Julia is back in the throes of releasing their debut album, The Fear That This Is Real.

And it is, among other things, with the two album frontrunners “Bigger Picture” and “Conversation,” released this year, that Sarah Julia plays her way into the hearts of the audience at Ideal Bar.

In their childhood home, tones from names like Cat Stevens and Jim Croce streamed out of the loudspeakers, and the sisters quickly found love for the music, expanding the chart book to artists such as Bon Iver and Ben Howard. The joint soundtrack was set aside to experiment with songwriting herself; an exercise that has formed the soundtrack for Sarah Julia's first EP, How Do We Go Back To Being Normal? from 2024.

The debut EP is a snapshot of a fragile period in the duo's life, and the sisters describe on the songs, through splinteringly honest lyricism, themes such as love, heartbreak and family. How do we go back to being normal? is carried by the duo's vocals, which smoothly wrap themselves in and out of each other's presence, backed by acoustic instruments.
