Satori Duo
Fig. Maciej Krajewski
Michał Giżycki — bass clarinet, saxophones (Poland)
Piotr Dąbrowski — drums, percussionals, voice, hollow stick (Poland)
The duo is inspired and explores the spiritual side of free jazz. It goes beyond the canonical perception of the genre and reaches into its essence. It often operates with silence, focus, meditation, as well as trance energy, without shying away from ecstatic expression. Musicians take into account existing circumstances, people, place and time, thus giving expression to music the free flow of energy. Total listening, full commitment, free action, compassion.
Michał Giżycki — clarinetist, saxophonist and improviser working in the areas of free jazz, avant jazz, improvised, experimental and folk music. He draws inspiration from nature, art, introspection and the circumstances. He co-creates bands such as Czarnoziem, Drogi Krajowe, En Quartet, Satori Duo, MikrobiOM and NaDiR Trio.
Piotr Dąbrowski — drummer, multi-instrumentalist, sound traveler who plays not only with instruments, but with his whole self. He does not stick to genres, although his heart is closest to free jazz. He is inspired by rain, streams, the noise of the body and what flows beyond words. He practices music without instructions, with full presence.
GBK Trio
Susanna Gartmayer — bass clarinet (Austria)
Thomas Berghammer — trumpet, flugelhorn, alto saxhorn (Austria)
Didi Kern — drums (Austria)
Gartmayer, Berghammer and Kern freely exchange leading and rhythmic roles. Their music combines experiments with abstract sound, subversive humor and Dadaist play with expressive melodies, ballad emotionality and dance rhythms.
Susanna Gartmayer — bass clarinetist, composer and improviser, working in the field of experimental music since the early 2000s. She studied painting and graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. She is interested in the polyphonic possibilities of low clarinets, multilanguage improvisation and open compositional forms.
Thomas Berghammer is a trumpeter, composer and educator, living in Vienna since 1991. He was educated at the music colleges in Linz and Graz. It focuses on free improvisation, contemporary jazz and world music.
Didi Kern is the drummer of the Austrian bands Bulbul and Fuckhead, co-founder of such bands as GBK, DEK-Trio and Broken.Heart.Collector. He has been playing drums and percussion instruments since 1983; he received a classical music education and performed in a marching orchestra for eight years.
