“We are emotionally illiterate. And this sad fact applies not only to you and me, but to practically all people. We learn about our organism and the cultivation of cereals in Pretoria, and the element of pi, or whatever it is called there, but not a word about the soul.
We are utterly, hopelessly incompetent when it comes to ourselves and others.”
Katarzyna Minkowska will examine Bergman's smallness in her performance. Can it work in today's reality?
How do representatives of different generations build love relationships today, at different stages of life and at different moments of relationship with another person? Is it possible to bring the institution of marriage into the current range of relational models? Can, regardless of all factors — age, life experience, social class, education — love just tear our hearts apart? From the prevailing narrative of romantic love, it is difficult to extract small, conventional, uninteresting stories.
And it is these gray stories that fill our daily lives and make our feelings — instead of drifting in a cosmic vacuum — begin to fall under the law of gravity and fall with a bang to the ground.
A deep, psychological vivisection of the relationship, at its various stages, based on the script of Bergman's film, inscribed in today's language of therapy, social media and a conscious approach to emotions. The intertwining of the plots made it possible to create a universal story about love, jealousy, control and submission.
This circulating story feels great on the rotating stage and in the blood-red scenography. The ingenious use of cameras enhances its cinematic dimension, and the acting impresses with its emotional credibility.
