The show is inspired by the parish chronicles of the Church of the Savior in Wałbrzych, which describe the history of the parish and thus the history of Wałbrzych and the region since 1525. This unique documentary finds its place in the repertoire of the Drama Theater, which has long been looking for the Wałbrzych identity and gives the inhabitants reasons to feel like Wałbrzych.
“Scenes from the life of the pious inhabitants of Waldenburg” is an insight into the history of the city and its inhabitants and the history of the Wałbrzych land against the background of the history of Silesia. The play establishes a symbolic continuity between Waldenburg and Wałbrzych, showing that the history of this town does not end with the owners of the castle; it was written by so-called “ordinary people” who come to life in the spectacle in order to disappear, as happened several decades ago, but this time leaving a memory and a trace. They were the ones who wrote the history of this land.
It is also a story about the beginnings of the Reformation and the persecution of followers of Luther's teachings. Waldenburg townspeople persevered in their religious beliefs, and their heritage is cherished by a contemporary evangelical community centered around the White Church.
