“Heart of glass. Musical Zen” based on the themes of “The Snow Queen” by Hans Christian Andersen and “Naku*wiam zen” by Maria Peszek is a musical performance in which Andersen's fairytale reality collides with the concrete of real biographies of two renowned artists, father and daughter — Jan Peszek and Maria Peszek. Am I capable of love at all? — this question, asked a few months after John's heart attack, becomes a flashpoint to carry out the musical anatomy of the heart, love and love. “Heart of glass. Musical Zen” is an incalculable, promiscuous and tender meditation on emptiness, body, love, Polish then and today, saints, farts, hopelessness and death with music by Andrzej Smolik and Maria Peszek. This is an expedition of the STUDIO and the Słowacki Theatre and Jan and Maria Peszków through the cold nights of the “winter of the century”, distant swamps, empty churches, ecstasy, life and creative crises, the darkness of Zbójniczka Castle and the Teofilów estate and through other wicked places.

The usual reading of “The Snow Queen” by H. Ch. Andersen is based on the reproduction of an ethical system, deeply embedded in Christian morality. In the musical STUDIO and the Slovak Theatre, the criticism of intellect present in the fairy tale, the demonization of the corporeality and sexuality or the censorship of desire disintegrates in the encounter with the biographies of Maria and John, who draw their strength from the chronic need for understanding through a process of constant questioning and contestation. In “Heart of Glass”, together with the teams of both theaters, they ask questions to which we already have ready answers; they venture into the worst areas, confronting us with what is uncomfortable, unwanted and filthy; they seek anew relationships with themselves and with others outside the established patterns of the “good family”; and above all, they remain in a state of constant ignorance and Affirmation of life “in spite of everything.”
