From Jerusalem will come two heavyweights from the new wave of Palestinian rap when Shabjdeed & Al Nather play at ALICE through Dec. Since their debut album “Sindibad el Ward” in 2019 on the groundbreaking Ramallah-based label BLTNM, the duo has left a significant imprint on the Arab hip hop scene with Al Nather's dark, futuristic productions and Shabjdeed's laid-back flow and virtuosic wordplay that conjures freedom struggles. They shut down Roskilde Festival last year and now they're coming to ALICE.

“A milestone for Arabic hip-hop”

Shabjdeed is a rapper and songwriter. Al Nather is a producer and dj. Together they form an Arabic-language rap constellation whose lacerating lyricism, trap, heavy bass and experimental beats have slowly progressed from underground to increasingly global recognisability. The debut album “Sindibad el Ward” was referred to as a landmark for Arab hip hop, while the single “Mtaktak” was voted among the BBC's best hip hop songs of all time. In 2024, the duo returned with the equally acclaimed “SULTAN”, in which they continue their ambitious worldbuilding with political irrepressibility. Shabjdeed's lyrics are about everyday life, about recapturing the present and about the very basics of being Palestinian and Arab — all borne out by Al Nather's distinctive cinematic productions. Shabjdeed & Al Nather are known for their hard-hitting, bespoke live shows, with which they have already enriched Earth Hackney, Astra Berlin, Le Guess Who? , Primavera and Roskilde Festival with.

Growing up in Jerusalem, Shabjdeed, with his fearless lyricism and constant evolution, has raised the bar for Arabic rap. His authenticity and ability to create entire worlds in both track and album form have made him a central figure on the stage. Shabjdeed has built up a large fan base worldwide, which waits for each new release. With BLTNM, he has played for sold-out venues in Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, the UK and Germany.

Al Nather

Al Nather is a producer, DJ and rapper also from Jerusalem and one of the architects of the distinctive sound that has characterised the Ramallah-based Palestinian label BLTNM. His productions draw threads from traditional Arabic music to UK hip hop and global roots, moving from dark and futuristic beats to hard-hitting trap. His musical range and wide range of inspirations have helped him create a groundbreaking sound that stands out significantly and that has earned him a cult following of fans. At the same time, his productions have prompted numerous artists from the region to seek collaborations for an Al Nather beat.
