Showtime — musical, history, backstage
What is behind the word “musical”? How did it come about, where did its forms come from today and what was happening on stages away from the mainstream?
Encounters titled Showtime is a journey through the history of the modern musical — from mid-20th century classics to its niche, less obvious faces. We will tell you about how this genre has changed, we will look at the phenomena that were born outside of Broadway and the West End, we will also try to explain why some songs were ahead of their time.
The stories will be complemented by songs performed by artists of the Music Theatre in Łódź and invited guests. We will hear songs that will help to better understand the next trends and phenomena. Along with legendary titles such as Cabaret, Man of La Mancha or Hair, there will also be surprises that show how broad and fascinating the musical genre is.
We are waiting for a portion of history, anecdotes, stories from the theatrical backstage, and above all — great music. Together we will examine when a musical ceases to be just a spectacular spectacle, and becomes a voice in the discussion of the modern world.
