Maks and his sister Emma, a few years older, spend the summer in Masuria, where they have to take care of a seriously ill, bedridden grandmother. Alone and left to themselves, they must grow up quickly, and everyday conflicts and psychological games lead to erotic, dangerous tension between them. Meanwhile, something disturbing begins to happen to her grandmother: the skin comes off her in lobes, and she herself seems completely absent one day, only to behave as if nothing bothers her the next. “Sick” begins as a nostalgic holiday memory, recorded on a slightly fuzzy VHS tape, but gradually develops into an increasingly disturbing horror film. Agata Trzebuchowska sensitively combines tasteful, poetic shots with something dirty, broken and disturbing.
