SIESTA on the way: GALA FADO. Marta Pereira da Costa and Friends: Nani Medeiros & Duarte

Autumn is a time of nostalgia. A couple of melancholy. The perfect aura for the art of fado. Siesta en route has been presenting to the Polish public the ardent music of old Lisbon for years. This season will be special anyway. Ahead of the Fado Gala!

Three great characters in one project.

It is led by Portuguese guitar virtuoso Marta Pereira da Costa. Challenging a world that has always been dominated by men, Marta — laureate of the Amalia Rodrigues Foundation — dazzles the globe with her art, from Brazil to Senegal; from the United States to Tunisia. Her original album features the greatest voices of the era: Camane and Dulce Pontes, but also our good siesta friend, the brilliant Richard Bona.

In the autumn Polish tour Marta will be accompanied by two outstanding artists: Brazilian Nani Medeiros, who naturally weaves the tradition of old Alfama with the pulse of a tropical beach. And the great Duarte, who bisected five times at the Siesta Festival in Gdańsk, thus setting a record in the history of our Fado Tavern. The handsome “Musketeer with Guitar” sings differently than the Lisbon school suggests. Maybe it's because it's from ancient Evora? It has tenderness, tenderness, gentleness in it. Not a hint of emphasis or exaggerated affect.

Never before has any of the fado concerts we presented had such a palette of colors and such variable dramaturgy; it did not tell so many stories.

SIESTA on the road

The establishment of SIESTA on the way is a live presentation of artists known from Marcin Kydryński's Sunday shows Pora Siesta and from the bestselling Siesta compilations (published in the 20th edition). The host and artistic director of SIESTA on the way is Marcin Kydryński, radio operator, author and songwriter, record producer and photographer and co-organizer of the Siesta Festival in Gdańsk.

SIESTA on the road hosted world-famous celebrities such as Pat Metheny, Bobby McFerrin & Chick Corea, Branford Marsalis and Dianne Reeves. Also featured in the project were: Richard Bona, Ana Moura, Camane, Tito Paris, Sara Tavares, Mayra Andrade, Lura, Tcheka, Elida Almeida, Yami, Nancy Vieira, Lucibela, Marcio Farco and Dino Di Santiago.

In Siesta, the interpenetration of cultures, the blurring of borders while respecting the traditions of the regions and reconciliation over historical divisions, are the most valuable values besides the very matter of music.
