New Year's Eve concert with Kirill Petrenko and Alexander Malofeev

info

Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker say goodbye to 2026 with humor and irony, setting the stage for the lively overtures to Otto Nicolai's Merry Wives by Windsor and Johann Strauss's Gypsy Baron. Dmitri Shostakovich brilliantly satirizes the genre of the concert in his Concerto for Piano and Trumpet. As soloists: Alexander Malofeev, who is making his debut with the Philharmoniker, and our solo trumpeter David Guerrier. Sergei Prokofiev, in turn, humorously plays with the traditions of Viennese classical music in the “Symphonie classique”, while Richard Strauss, in his tone poem Till Eulenspiegel, sometimes portrays the title hero with a wink and sometimes with joy in the grotesque.
