About the event

Attunement III

By taking traditional instruments to the limits of their sonic possibilities, Tuce Alba and Mo'ong & Bilawa conclude this edition of Sintonia.

Tuce Alba explores the possibilities of sound through a visual and spatial engagement with a sound that is both raw and emotional. Her work with Ney and modular synthesis opens up a new, refreshing perspective on traditional instrumental techniques. Mo'ong Santoso Pribadi and Bilawa Ade Respati present an audiovisual exploration of post-gamelan music. Algorithmically generated sounds, processed samples and large layers of synthetic drones combine to create an intensive sound image. Their energetic collaboration dissolves the instrument's traditional tuning systems and translates them into a constantly changing, synthetic field of audiovisual concentration.

Tuce Alba is an architect, musician and sound artist who lives and works in Berlin. At the center of her practice is sound as a material for creating temporal and spatial experiences. Her work deals with slow transformation, minimal movement, and the physical nature of sound textures. Her live performances create raw, heavy soundscapes of noise, distortion, deep bass and feedback. No melody, no softness — just pure energy. Each performance thus becomes a spiritual and physical experience that wants to be felt as well as heard. As a long-time ney player, she expands the possibilities of the instrument by combining it with electronics and modular synthesis. In doing so, she is researching how traditional sounds can be reworked, fragmented and transformed without losing their connection to their origins.

'Mo'ong & Bilawa' is a joint project by Indonesian musicians Bilawa Ade Respati and Mo'ong Pribadi. Bilawa Ade Respati is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is influenced by a wide range of fields — from engineering and performing arts to European musical tradition and Javanese Karawitan music. Mo'ong Pribadi is primarily known for his experimental music and for building his own instruments, including as a member of the bands Raja Kirik and Takkak Takkak. Apart from their individual artistic practices, the two enter into a musical dialogue and develop a playful, syncretic sound from this. In this game for two, the cacophony of life is audible — in all its diversity, contradictions and energy — and not only allowed, but expressly embraced.
