Scandals, vices and moral sensations in Gdynia

We invite you to the Library of Knowledge for a meeting about the less glorious history of Gdynia combined with the promotion of the latest book by Krzysztof Chalimoniuk. This unique meeting will be dedicated to scandals and customs affairs, romances, love murders and other surprising crimes from the history of Gdynia.

By presenting the book Summer Season, we want to tell about the former Gdynia and recall the stories of its inhabitants — their private lives, betrayals, frauds, banter and swagger. These events — sometimes dramatic and sometimes comic — appalled Gdynians and were widely echoed outside the city.

The publication Sezon letniskowy is devoted to these matters and many other aspects of everyday life in Gdynians. The stories described in the book were recreated on the basis of the old press and archival materials.

The author of the book and speaker is Krzysztof Chalimoniuk — an employee of the Library of Knowledge, author of the Facebook series “From the archive of the Library of Knowledge” and “Eyes and ears of Gdynia”, as well as the host of the podcast “Sea stories — conversations about Gdynia”, realized by our Library. Together with Dr. Jarosław Drozd, responsible for preparing the publication Situation Reports of the Government Commissioner in Gdynia 1929-1939 and Archival Sources to the History of the Port of Gdynia. Author of the publication: History of the Port of Gdynia and Summer Season.
