In 1955, the young Polish director Konrad Swinarski joined the world-famous Berliner Ensemble. He witnesses a devastating conflict between two women closely associated with the founder of the theater, Bertolt Brecht. He observes Berlau's dramatic struggle with his “first wife” — Helene Weigel: for attention, recognition, memory and power. She learns the poignant stories of the women who co-created the legend of the master and the great institution called “Brecht”.
