Writing Workshop: The Written Desire

About WorkshopIn this writing workshop, it's about writing love scenes that teem with closeness, intensity and desire. How do you portray attraction and intimacy in a way that feels both believable and sensual—without it becoming clunky, clichéd, or distancing?

The workshop is based on examples from both recent and older literature, tips and tricks and is combined with writing exercises, where you will have the opportunity to test techniques and find your own language for the erotic, the emotional and the bodily - no matter what genre you write in.

The workshop is in two parts: The first focusing on “the first encounter” and depiction of attraction, and the second part focusing on eroticism, desire and the bodily.

About TeachersThe workshop is hosted by Johanne Bille (b. 1993), who debuted in 2015 and has since written 11 novels about both happy and unhappy love relationships. In 2024, she jumped out as a romance writer with the series Boghandel Blåregn, which has just reached its conclusion with the seventh and final volume. The series has garnered much praise for its sensitive love entanglements and sense of the corporeal and intimate.

Writing WorkshopsEvery month, Copenhagen Libraries invites you to writing workshops all over the city. The themes and trainers vary. Our writing workshops are not workshops, but stand-alone workshops of two hours in which lecturers give presentations and give participants writing exercises.

Practical InfoWriting Workshop is aimed at adults.Participation is free, but requires registration at Billetto.The writing workshop takes place at Copenhagen Central Library, 4th floor, live.We do not provide computers, so bring your own and/or paper and pen. There is very limited table space, so you probably have to sit with the computer/paper in your lap.We offer a writing pad that you can have as a base for your block/paper.There is a water post and a coffee machine on the 4th floor, but in addition we cannot offer provisions. Bring yourself a water can or a bottle for water.

Find the wayFrom the main entrance of the Main Library you can find the 4th floor in the following ways:

Take the elevator that you find on your right hand when you step from Krystalgade into Centralsalen. The stage is on the right when you step out of the elevator.Take the stairs that you will find on your right hand as you step from Krystalgade into Centralsalen. Follow the stairs up to fourth. The stage is on the right as you step out onto the floor.Follow the escalators up to the 3rd floor. At the end of the last escalator, a staircase goes on your right side up to the 4th floor.
