Writing Workshop: Getting Started with Your Children's Book

About the WorkshopBased on her new book about writing for children, When I'm Little Again, Rebecca Bach-Lauritsen holds a writing workshop. Through writing exercises and inspiration, she allows you to write your children's book - or at least to get started with it.

Rebecca herself says about writing for children: When people hear that I am a children's book writer, they simply say, “I've always wanted to write a children's book.”

Like it's something you just do.

Among children's book writers, the joke is to answer the doctor, “I've always wanted to operate a brain” or the engineer “I've always wanted to build a bridge”...

It's great if you've always wanted to write a children's book. As Astrid Lindgren said: “I want to write for a readership that can create miracles. Only children create miracles when they read.”

About the teacherRebecca Bach-Lauritsen is an award-winning children's book author and in 2026 received the Danish Arts Foundation's three-year work grant in literature.

Practical InfoWriting Workshop is aimed at adults.Participation is free, but requires registration at Billetto.We do not provide computers, so bring your own and/or paper and pen. There is very limited table space, so you probably have to sit with the computer/paper in your lap.We offer a writing pad that you can have as a base for your block/paper.There is a water post and a coffee machine in the library, but in addition we cannot offer provisions. Bring a water can or a bottle for water.Find wayWriting The workshop takes place in the Othello room at Christianshavn Library. From the library entrance you can find Othello as follows: follow the wall on your right hand through the library room itself and turn around the first corner. Othello is located as a side room to the library room, but can easily be seen if you continue to follow the right wall.
